How to block Googlebot from checking a directory on my website?

I plot on creatinga new database in a new folder (mydomain.com/testing_folder/) & since this would have little to no relevance to do with the main purpose of my website, I wouldn’t want Google or any other search bots to index it? How can I prevent them from doing so? Thanks.

use whats known as a robots.txt file. This will tell the search engines to what parts of your website you dont want to index.

Google lets you know on their very own pages, here: http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=40364

    Hope that helps.
